Permit not required to ice fish over Louis Riel Day long weekend

Manitobans will be able to go ice fishing without a permit over the Louis Riel Day long weekend.

This is the second annual Winter Family Fishing Weekend put on my the province.

“After the success of last year’s first family fishing weekend, we want to continue to encourage people to try ice fishing as a healthy and enjoyable leisure activity during the winter,” said Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh.  ”This weekend is a great way to spend time with family and friends while taking advantage of our worldclass fishing across the province.”

From February 18-20 anglers will be allowed to fish without a license throughout the province, except in national parks where a federal permit is still required.

The same conservation limits that apply to listened fishing are still in effect.

Ice fishes are reminded that they should be sure that conditions are safe before going onto the ice, and to ensure someone knows where you are going to be.
